It seemed pointless to wear a cum-soaked thong or a wet one. Instead, after rinsing it in the pool, Mica had tied it around his thigh in case it came in handy later on. Their survival was dependent on what they already held. There could be no assurances that anything useful would be found elsewhere within the cave. And if Geoff was making the journey naked, so would he. There was nothing to hide between them now. They headed toward an unknown fate, Geoff in the lead, naturally. The man held the torch up high as they made their way through the unexplored tunnel. It was much like the other, although damper as they went farther in. That was all to the good. They lapped at water dripping down the walls to conserve what they carried. Neither of them said anything, yet they both knew this was a good sign. After lack of air, thirst was the next thing to fell a person. The tunnel wasn’t stuffy enough to make them worried about the former, and of course, if they could breathe easily, it gave them hope that there were openings ahead of them. Maybe one would be human-sized.

Mica estimated that they’d been walking for many hours, resting only briefly, when they came across another cavern around a sharp bend. It wasn’t as big as the other two and had no pool of water of any note. There was only a stagnant puddle below where water trickled down in earnest through a narrow crevice above. But there was also moss, which was a blessing, as the torch was nearly out. He quickly went about gathering some and forming a firepit. It wouldn’t last long, though. He unpacked some of the food then portioned it out enough to mollify their stomachs while stretching their provisions. It was impossible to say how long it would take to find a way out. If we ever do. No, he couldn’t think that way. Despair was the worst enemy they had at the moment.

As he and Geoff consumed their meager meal, something wiggling in the corner around a pile of dirt caught Mica’s eye. Tossing the last of his ration into his mouth, Mica got up to investigate. He grinned at what he saw, and picking up one of the creatures, he showed it to Geoff. “Grubs. Edible they are.”

Geoff made a face. “I’ve probably had worse on some of my campaigns, so I won’t complain. Insects make for good food. It’s surprising to find them down here and clever of you to spot it.”

Warmed by the praise, Mica quickly gathered up as many of the grubs as he could find, then stoking the fire, he tossed them in. It was possible to eat them raw…but unappetizing. As long as they were able to safely make a fire, they should make use of it. When they were cooked and cooled, he stowed them away, banked what was left of the flames and sat down beside Geoff.
